The Brain Visualization Project

Through the Lehigh Humanities Lab, student Sarrah Hussain ’21 and graduate student Viola Yu learned from and collaborated with professor Jennifer Swann, from Biological Sciences, and visiting assistant professor Deirdre Murphy, from Art, Architecture and Design, to work on what became known as the brain visualization project. The professors taught and students worked remotely during the summer, keeping in contact through video chatting. They were even able to incorporate lab sessions with sheep brains to better understand neuroanatomy and illustrate from. As part of the project, the student artists created medical illustrations for online, open-access textbook chapters conceived by Dr. Swann. There will be an online exhibit of their work and an in-person exhibit in the future.
